PROPOSED “GOODWILL” OZTOUR 2009:
Members – what you are about to read is not the first time such a tour has been suggested. I believe this was considered during the first and highly successful TT 1 Tour of Tasmania .
Unaware of the previous consideration, we planned a tour from Brisbane , Sydney , Canberra , Melbourne , Hobart , Melbourne , Adelaide , Esperance, Albany to Perth . The second stage followed after learning about the discussions during the TT 1 which gave me more adrenalin to complete planning such a journey.
Following is a copy of our submission to President Gary J. which was read at last month's (August) meeting.
Letter No 2 – 20/8/07
SUBJECT: Proposed “ TR Goodwill Oztour 2009”
Gentlemen,
Some of you will be aware of our proposed tour of all states & territories of Australia as detailed in letter No.1 dated 5/8/07 .
The purpose of this suggested programme is to visit all TR-RA states & territory groups as a “goodwill” principal and also to include our remote members in W.A., N.T., & Qld etc.
Here is our preliminary suggestions for such a TR Tour.
Preliminary planning indicates that 12 to 16 weeks duration may be possible and will be governed by our desire to see remote scenic areas of interest as well as accommodation referred above.
Gentlemen, this is one person's perception for a TRemendous tour for all to enjoy – we welcome other ideas & comments. A nucleus of participants could be joined by other members and journey with us and return to their abodes at their leisure – this will create an opportunity for all TR RA members to be part of such an activity.
Many factors will determine the feasibility and success of such a tour – some being health, financial and other constraints, however, we feel that time is right to plan and execute a “dream” for all to enjoy.
Please consider.
Cheers & regards,
John Buck
PS. Thanks for assistance & comments Geoff J., Pikey, & Fletch.
B . ALTERNATIVE “ CENTRAL AUSTRALIA OUTBACK TOUR”
We suggest this could take place in 2010 or be reversed with Tour A if enough members will support it.
Proposed “Central Australia Outback tour” could commence at Goondiwindi or Roma, travelling through Charleville, Longreach, Mount Isa, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Yulara, Uluru (Ayres Rock) , Coober Pedy, Port Augusta, Broken Hill with the tour concluding at Gilgandra in central NSW.
Naturally, accommodation in remote areas will govern our daily TRravels as well as sight seeing of tourist areas will take time. We estimate 3 – 4 weeks duration for a reasonable tour (to be confirmed).
SUMMARY:
Particularly Tour A and to a lesser extent Tour B will not be for the faint hearted. They are suggested for the adventurer and long distance drivers amongst us – ladies included.
The purpose of this communication is to inform our members prior to Concours 2007 so that interested parties will be able to discuss these proposals with us. With more members retiring or taking long service leave these types of tours may become popular.
Nothing is firm to date only suggestions for some unique TR motoring – the “Goodwill” Tour will be the first time Australia has been circum navigated by a Sidescreen TR.
As mentioned in Tour A many factors will determine if these suggested activities will materialise – they are too numerous to mention in this journal and if sufficient interest is shown we will commence detailed research.
We await your comments and suggestions. Please consider.
Cheers & regards,
Judy & John Buck
